The first team arrives

After sorting out a few last minute glitches in the morning we spent the afternoon at Speke Resort by the poolside relaxing and recharging our batteries. The plan was then to have an early night so when we got up at 3am to meet the team we were vaguely alert!

That was the plan!

In reality we got stuck in traffic caused by an accident and didn’t get back to the hotel until 10.30. We then checked the rooms to make sure everything was ok and encountered numerous problems such as no towels, no candles, no mosquito nets and even no bed in one room!! All of which had to be resolved before we finally got to bed around midnight!

We’ll still be able to get 3 hours sleep we thought!

At 12.10 the power comes back on and a family nearby having a wedding generously decides to allow the neighbours to join in the celebrations of such a joyous occasion! We are given a medley of African and ‘Western’ songs until electricity goes off again around 1.30am! We get an hour sleep and meet the team at the airport bleary eyed and looking more like zombies than team leaders!

Fortunately, knowing the team would be shattered from their overnight flight, we had planned a relaxing day! We went to the local church, Zana Prestbyterian and then on to a local hotel for lunch and a swim in their pool.

That evening we had invited a local friend to come for dinner and give the team a brief insight into the history of Uganda and its culture.
